I havenot yet read this book of scientific acumen; but was fortunate to read a deatiled summary and critique of this book in Encarta Literary Archieves.
This book is a beaUTIFUL and heart touching story presented in the form of project reports. It is a story about a young man who was mentally retarded. He considers his fellow workers as best friends, but they used to harry him.
Then came a scietific experiment by erudite psychologists who needed to test their findings, and our poor fellow was selected for the research experiments.
His IQ increased amazingly but he was unable to make nice friends which he really wanted. His co-workers thought that there was sth wrong going with this guy. He became a social failure when he was unable to find love, friendship and compassion from anybody.
He turned to his past to ameliorate his solitude and find reasons of being a living fiasco.
The ending is really cute, and makes the story far better than other sci-fi craps.
The novel touches various critical issues about society and human understanding; psychology and human relations.

Shimon
this was an excellent book, and would be worth your while to read it. it is not a scientific book, but a parable on the human condition in this world.
